Limbaugh most influential Conservative?

December 4, 2009

A recent poll aid that Rush Limbaugh was the country’s most influential conservative. In addition, there has been talk about the GOP instituting some sort of purity test to qualify for support from the party.

I think the test could be reduced to simply identifying those candidates, party leaders, and those who be the party’s bosses who are NOT conservatives and are actually RINOs (republicans in name only). So let’s look back at a previous posting and see what a conservative is and is not and who we have to say goodbye to.

1. A conservative makes his point with facts and logical points of debate. (goodbye Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Palin, Bachman…).

2. A conservative does NOT resort to embellishments, distortions, and misinformation. (goodbye Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Palin, Bachman…).

3. A Conservative does not resort to name-calling and other childish and immature behavior directed at those who disagree with them. (goodbye Limbaugh, Beck…).

4. A conservative loves his country and does not let his opposition or hatred of a person get in the way of that even if that person is the President of the United States of the other party. He would not cheer when the US lost the Olympics, nor would he raise a stink at the President winning the Nobel Prize. (goodbye Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Americans for Prosperity,…).

5. A conservative wants to get the conservative message out and win converts to the party, not work to see how many people they can keep out or drive away. (goodbye Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Palin, Bachman…).

Looks like identifying the RINOs is pretty easy (Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Palin, Bachman…). So let’s get rid of them and those who pander to them and the damage they are doing to the party and let the real conservatives come forth and win elections.

As for the poll, Limbaugh is NOT the most influential conservative, as he is NOT a conservative in the first place.

Happy Thanksgiving: A word about Christmas Music

November 25, 2009

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Also as a binus here’s a blurb on Christmas Music. i didn’t write this myself, but using it and modified it a bit with the permission of the author.

With the Thanksgiving weekend upon us, we are now fully into the Christmas season. The Christmas music is playing at the mall and I think that is great. Some may think it is a little soon, but as for me, I think Christmas can never begin too soon, or last too long.

Before long and certainly by the end of the year, websites, newspapers, and other media sources will be posting lists of the “worst Christmas songs”. My opinion is that this is a waste of time and bandwidth especially given that in most cases it is not the result of a poll but rather some entertainment or “living” reporter’s opinion.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I resent when they try to tell me these are the worst songs. More often than not, more than half of the songs on their lists I like. Last year there were three I can think of, Paul McCartney’s “Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time”, Elton John’s “Step Into Christmas”, and Bruce Springsteen’s version of “Santa Claus is Coming to town”, are songs I could not imagine the holiday without. I was flabbergasted to see these on a list of worst Christmas songs.

Now I will grant you that there are bad Christmas songs, and there are bad versions of good Christmas songs. I could go the rest of my life and be perfectly content if I never heard “Grownup Christmas List” ever again. I enjoy most Christmas music, but my favorite style has become that which is performed by the New Age genre of artists that has an eerie/spooky feel to it.

Every radio I have ever seen has an off button and a tuning apparatus. We have the option of changing the station when we hear a song we don’t like. And there are always our CD’s and MP3 players.

The biggest pet peeve I have concerning Christmas music is that they stop playing it way too soon. The Christmas holiday does not end at 12:00am on December 26th. As many Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Anglicans can tell you, the holiday goes on until the observance of Epiphany on January 6th. We’ve all heard of the 12 days of Christmas, that’s when they are 12/25-1/5, not the 6 shopping weekends before December 24th. In fact, there are many Eastern Orthodox who do not observe Christmas until January 7th. So why can’t at least some of these stations stay on until 12:00am on January 8th?

My other pet peeve about Christmas music is that there seems to be an oversaturation of songs played by artists who came off the American Idol television show. I know it’s a popular program and the artists have their fans but give me a break. Do we really need a Clay Aiken song every hour? On the other hand some great songs such as ‘Christmas Time all over the World” by Sammy Davis Jr. can only be found very rarely.

Whatever your taste in Christmas Music might be, it’s time to crank it up and enjoy.

Romney, Huckabee Should Be Wary Of Frontrunner Status

November 11, 2009

As speculation about who the eventual GOP presidential nominees seems to be in full swing earlier than ever, two men who are benefiting the most from this should take a lesson from history.

In 1984, after the reelection of Ronald Reagan, the media practically declared that the Democratic nominee in 1988 would be NY governor Mario Cuomo. In 1992, Cuomo was similarly declared as the nominee. Yet a Cuomo candidacy or Presidency never happened.

In 2008, the media declared Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani the nominees. Yet neither of these happened. Giuliani, after being the declared frontrunner all along, saw his campaign crumble after someone in his camp decided it was a good idea to skip the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.

Therefore, Huckabee and Romney should not get too comfortable with their frontrunner status this early in the game. Either one would make fine candidate and a fine president. However, they should heed the lessons of history and let the process take its course.

Wordbyte: NY-23 A Sound Rebuke of the Talk Radio Faction

November 6, 2009

And this is good news for the GOP. Who, if they muster to courage to stand up to these talkers, can begin the process of offering solid conservative candidates for the 2010 races and start looking ahead to 2012.

Coming soon to the Blog:

Hushing the Rush Update 11/5/09

November 5, 2009

Was looking over Rush’s website this morning and wanted to comment on a few things. He says conservatism didn’t lose in NY-23 and he is right. Conservatism didn’t lose in NY-23, fortunatly Rush and the rest of the Talk Show Faction DID lose in NY-23. Their first major attack on conservatism and the Republican Party was crushed.

He also talks about an unreported civil war in the Deomcratic party. Oh how I wish it was true. However, this is just Talk Radio’s way of deflecting the fact that the have caused a civil war in the Republican party.

Nice showing for conservatives in NJ and VA, unfortunatly we can’t claim it a referendum on Obama as informaton coming in says Obama was not a major factor in these conservative victories. We’ll take them anyway and can build on that moving towards 2010 and 2012.

Who are the REAL RINO’s?

November 4, 2009

There has been a lot of talk about RINO’s lately. The purpose of this post is to clear a few things up.

A RINO (Republican in Name Only) traditionally has been used to refer to a politician that is very moderate or liberal. Such a person votes and acts more like a Democrat than a Republican.

However, the term of late has been hijacked, by the very same people trying to hijack the Republican Party. They are pushing their own version of the term RINO which more or less defines a RINO as:

A person who does not support the positions AND methods of the Talk Radio Faction of the party. Someone who dares criticize Rush Limbaugh in any way. In other words, the Talk Radio Faction defines RINO as anyone other than themselves.

Before we decide who is or is not a RINO, we should establish who is a Conservative Republican, what they do and what they do not do.

A real conservative makes his point with facts and logical points of debate. He does NOT resort to embellishments, distortions, and misinformation.

A real Conservative does not resort to name-calling and other childish and immature behavior directed at those who disagree with them.

A real conservative loves his country and does not let his opposition or hatred of a person get in the way of that even if that person is the President of the United States of the other party. He would not cheer when the US lost the Olympics, nor would he raise a stink at the President winning the Nobel Prize.

A real conservative wants to get the conservative message out and win converts to the party, not work to see how many people they can keep out or drive away.

So who are the real RINO’s? Perhaps the people using the term these days should take a look in the mirror!

The State of the Republican Party

November 3, 2009

The Republican Party has not fared well in the last two elections particularly in 2008.  The party of Ronald Reagan seems to have fallen into chaos, disarray, and out of favor with the public. In a recent survey, only 25% identified themselves as Republican. What has gone wrong?

On many occasions, conservatives have accurately described the Democrats as a coalition of special interest groups. True as that is, at least those special interest groups are working together for a common goal. The Republicans also have their collection of factions, but the factions are starting to come unglued and the emergence of a new more radical faction threatens to damage the party’s reputation and chances in the 2010 midterms and the 2012 Presidential race.

I think the answer to what is wrong is simple, extreme factionalism. While we have always had factions, they have always been about priorities and all shared a common conservative philosophy. Let’s examine the factions within the party.

The Mainstream/Base- The rank and file and base of the party. In this group, we have several subgroups:

The Establishment- The brick and mortar conservatives who have and will be Republicans for life.

Social Conservatives- Those whose priorities are focused on such things as abortion or gay marriage

Fiscal Conservatives- Those whose priorities are focused on things like reducing spending, cutting taxes, and reducing burdensome regulation on business and investment.

To the right of the Mainstream/Base we have two other major factions:

The Christian Right- Primarily composed of Evangelical Christians; this is a group whose priorities are shaped by their religious beliefs. There is a lot of overlap between this group and the social conservatives. Commonly referred to as the “Christian” Right, this group doesn’t seem to include the two oldest and largest Christian groups, the Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholics. However many Orthodox and Catholics can find common ground with the Evangelicals on such issues as abortion and gay marriage.

Moving to the extreme right we find the faction that poses the greatest concern.

The Talk Radio Faction- I would define this group as a number of radio talk show hosts and like minded media, their listeners and those with similar mindsets and those just going along, and politicians who have jumped on board this bandwagon. This group is defined by their obnoxious, outrageous, and exclusive behavior. Conservatives have always been able to make their case using facts and logical points of debate. Yet this group sees no problem using embellishments, misinformation, and fear mongering. Their hatred for President Obama seems to take priority over their love of country as evidenced when they cheered when we lost the 2016 Olympic bid.

The problem is that the Talk radio faction is getting too much deference from party leaders and as a result makes us look extreme as a party. It also makes it easy for the Democrats to make the claim that Rush Limbaugh runs the party. And with party leaders falling all over themselves to grovel in apology to Rush after making an honest but unfavorable statement about him, it makes our job as conservatives harder to maintain credibility. Furthermore the Talk Radio faction has self-appointed itself to say that anyone who does not share their agenda and methods is not a true conservative and are denounced as RINO’s, liberals, or some other unflattering term.

We need leaders and candidates with conservative values, and can present and promote a conservative message using CONSERVATIVE METHODS. This means no more embellishments, or misinformation. No more cheering against America regardless of how we feel about the current administration. The Talk Radio faction must either be reigned in, or denounced and marginalized as to not appear to represents anyone other than themselves.

In summary, the Republicans can rise again, yet they must overcome this internal obstacle. Their biggest threat comes not from their political enemies, but from their alleged friends.
